RECORDING STUDIO

A “recording studio” means a real music production centre.

Comfort and state-of-the-art technology foster an understanding between musicians and technicians in favour of maximum creativity.

RECORDING STUDIO

Two Rooms and a Control Room for all your filming and audio processing needs.

CONTROL ROOM

In 20 square metres of space you will find technology, expertise and relaxation.

The acoustics have been taken care of to eliminate standing waves and ensure good linearity when listening to the audio monitors, made even more precise by electronically tested room equalisation.

Sitting at the console, listening is extremely accurate and reliable.

DATA SHEETS

If know-how is important, audio equipment is no less important to ensure a high level of production in a recording studio.

In the Recording Studio, operation and audio equipment are both at the highest level, in order to achieve “state of the art” results that meet the highest quality standards of our time.

RECORDING SYSTEM

  • ProTools HD3 with PCI-Express connection (27 DSPs) with 96 I/O interface
  • 16 simultaneous recording channels for 192 total voices
  • channels expandable to 32 via Sync with Pro Tools system and Digi 003 Rack
  • Apple MacPro Computer
  • No. 4 Hard Disk S-ATA
  • No. 3 Har Disk Fw800
  • No. 1 40″ Full HD video monitor

RECORDING

Studio Recording means first and foremost Audio Recording.

High-quality microphones such as the “Neumann U87” and top processors such as the “AMS Neve 8801” channel strip, inserted in top-performance DAWs such as Pro Tools HD3 and Pro Tools HD Native, guarantee a perfect technological contribution.

The more than 20 years of experience of the sound engineer, who is also an experienced musician, guarantee precise and flawless results every time.

We often use multi-field microphone pick-up, which allows the sound to be shaped acoustically at the mix stage, before resorting to instrumental retouching.

In multi-microphone recording, perfect phase control makes it possible to avoid timbre impoverishment and optimise control in the mix phase, enhancing stereophony.

EDITING

After the recording phase, it is now customary to abound with the processing of the recorded material, in order to make the performances more precise and the listening clearer.

In our recording studio we are highly specialised in editing, and operate with great speed and surgical precision.

Our editing procedures include, in order:

CHOISING
choosing the best audio fragment or take

CUTTING
cutting and related rejoining of several takes or fragments

TIMING
the operation of aligning an audio fragment on the timeline

CLEANING
the cleaning of tracks from unwanted or accidental noise and attenuation of excessively loud consonants

TUNING
improving the intonation of a singer or instrumentalist

FADING
how to fade in and out fragments, sentences or traces.

MIXING

Mixing or Blending, comprises 3 consequential processes:

PRE-MIXING

optimal organisation of track volumes

PROCESSING

use of equalisers to eliminate excesses and resonances or fill in deficiencies in timbre

use of dynamics processors to model attacks and releases and to level volumes

use of equalisers to shape timbre and make sources stand out in the mix

use of echo and reverberation by means of room processors

use of special effects

MIXING

final organisation of volumes, step-by-step fine-tuning of processing, phase and stereophonic control

A good mix is a complex art that requires an experienced sound engineer and a powerful and reliable system like our Pro tools HD3.

MASTERING

Studio Recording Service is also Audio Mastering, to guarantee you a clear and powerful sound.

After every mix it is now a must to perform a good audio mastering, to optimise the timbral texture and dynamics of the mix.

In accordance with record and radio standards, audio mastering works on equalisation, compression and phase coherence parameters.

EQUALISATION

We compensate with static equalisation for any deficiencies or timbral peaks to create a harmonic sound free of unwanted peak resonances.

With dynamic equalisation we then compensate for variable imbalances and other compression-induced exaggerations.

COMPRESSION

Music forced into media (such as CDs or audio files) is limited in power by the maximum level of ZERO db, beyond which distortion appears.

An uncompressed mix can be turned up in volume until the highest peaks coincide with the ZERO db level, an insurmountable limit.

By limiting these peaks, we can achieve a gain of several db, equal to that of the international reference discography. .

The extreme compression imposed by such standards, however, distorts dynamics and timbre perception to the point of a “scratched” effect far removed from the clarity of the original mix.

Through mathematical studies and experimentation, we developed an intervention procedure that respects the original dynamics and timbre as much as possible, producing a clear and powerful master.

PHASE COHERENCE AND STEREOPHONY

Phase control is indispensable to avoid attenuation of certain sources when listening in mono, also ensuring a correct and enjoyable stereo image.

WHERE WE ARE

We are located in Ivrea, Piedmont, in the Canavese region, but we also operate with a mobile studio in the provinces of Turin, Alessandria, Asti, Biella, Cuneo, Novara, Verbania, Vercelli and Aosta.

With online services we are finally able to operate worldwide with mixing and mastering services and music arrangements.
